I know how you feel. I miss it too.

The feeling of putting on our gi and stepping on the mats. The slap and bump before a roll. Analyzing techniques with our teammates. They're all part of the jiu-jitsu experience we've grown to love.

When you think about it, why we keep coming back is because of who we share these experiences with. The friendship we have with our teammates is molded through jiu-jitsu. The art is what it is because of the people we choose to surround ourselves with.

The quarantine has thrown a wrench into our plans. But it doesn't mean we can't adapt. We all crave for that human interaction in training so I thought, "why not teach someone in your household jiu-jitsu so you can get a training partner?" I think I can help with that.

From Radio DJ to Jiu-Jitsu Instructor

Head Coach, Origins Jiu-Jitsu

Pat Jamlang

As a former Radio Jock in one of the most prominent radio stations in Manila, Magic 89.9, Coach Pat's strength is his ability to effectively communicate and simplify jiu-jitsu to students of all ages. His instruction is very detail-oriented and focuses on building a strong foundation around your game through his unique understanding of jiu-jitsu principles. Adjusting to the online teaching format, he carries the same passion and attention to detail as if you were to take his class in person.

Coach Pat has been teaching since 2008 and his enthusiasm for coaching led him to be a full-time jiu-jitsu instructor since 2016. He is currently the Head Coach of Origins Jiu-Jitsu and is a brown belt under Nic Gregoriades.

What people are saying.

"...the guy is a Jiu-Jitsu Encyclopedia."

by Linx Roxas

Pat is an awesome instructor. Super chill and humble, but the guy is a Jiu Jitsu Encyclopedia. He also has the knack of rapidly analyzing the stuff you need to improve on and makes tweaks and improvements to your game mid-roll. And when you happen to forget said tweaks and continue on your blundering ways, he has the patience of a Tibetan monk and is gracious enough not to make you feel like you messed up. But one of the biggest things that makes Pat an exceptional teacher, is that he never stopped being a student himself. He's always learning and improving his game. And on the rare occasions when there's something he doesn't know, he's humble enough to admit it. That's the kind of teacher we should all be so fortunate to learn from. World class.

"...very unique and easygoing approach to teaching Jiu jitsu."

by Ezequiel Villegas

Pat Jamlang is a terrific and brilliant teacher. He has this very unique and easygoing approach to teaching Jiu jitsu. He has a deep understanding of the art and teaches in a very easy to understand way. He is a truly motivational coach as well. I have been training with him for more than 2 years now and I can say with all certainty that my understanding of jiu-jitsu has improved considerably since I’ve been with him.

"...able to explain technical movements in simple terms..."

by Joelle Villalva

I’m lucky to have had the chance to begin my BJJ journey with Coach Pat. As a beginner, it’s easy to be overwhelmed with the amount of information you need to learn and to be able translate that knowledge into actual movements. Coach Pat is able to break down complex sequences into smaller segments that you can put together later on. He also is able to explain technical movements in simple terms or using analogies that make them easier to remember. One of the things I’m most thankful for was when he encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and join my first tournament. Not only did he help me drill my techniques, he also helped me with my mental preparation that has helped me both on and off the mats!

"...impressed by his masterful understanding of the art."

by Norman Golez

I met Pat for the first time on the 5th of August, 2016, the 1st day of my BJJ journey. When I entered the class, I expected an instructor with a physically imposing physique. To my surprise, however, I was introduced to Pat, whom I thought resembled more like a high school science teacher than a UFC fighter. But, as soon as he started teaching, I was immediately impressed by his masterful understanding of the art. It turns out that underneath that humbling presence is a wealth and depth of knowledge which he readily shares with his students. Pat’s influence does not pervade only on the mats, but even and more importantly, off the mats. While I may be many years senior than him, Pat has taught me valuable life lessons: (i) Keep showing up; (ii) Work hard; (iii) You’re only as good as your training partners; and (iv) Don’t be an asshole. From white to blue and, hopefully, all the way to black, I look forward to many more years of being Pat’s student.

"...he’s easily able to pick up on what I need."

by Gabbie Veloso

Pat is really good at understanding everyone’s personal style, their strengths and their weaknesses. I like taking his classes because he knows exactly what I need in order to improve my game. He helps me incorporate new moves that work well with my style, and at the same time, challenges me to expand my style too. He’s really knowledgeable about jiu-jitsu which is why I think he’s easily able to pick up on what I need. It helps too that he’s chill and easy going so he sets a fun and comfortable vibe in his classes.

FAQs

  • What will I learn in this course?

  • What makes this course different from a regular jiu-jitsu instructional?

We're using a platform that helps optimize your learning. Not only will you be watching videos, but I've also written key points for you to remember and designed quizzes to make sure you retain the information needed to achieve the desired outcome per module.

  • I've only trained for a few months. Will this course benefit me?

It doesn't matter what your skill level is. I'll walk you through how to teach the curriculum, which will allow your partner to execute techniques from the bottom, top, and eventually arrive at a submission.

  • Do we need mats?

Preferably, yes, but I designed this course in a way that if you don't have mats, you can still complete it. Please watch the free preview of the video "What if you don't have mats?" to get a glimpse of some of the techniques being performed without mats.

  • How long will this course take to complete?

It depends how diligent you and your partner are in completing the course but it should only take 1-2 training sessions to complete each module.
